Meet Scott Goodman, a well-known, veteran, mover and shaker, commercial real estate developer who plays an important role in Chicago’s burgeoning technology and innovation ecosystem creating a desirable landing place for emerging and established companies; an integral piece of the puzzle for Chicago’s attraction - innovative, interesting work spaces where companies can locate to accommodate growth and expansion.
Scott was a founding Principal of Sterling Bay, a company started in the mid-1980’s with seed money from family and friends. During his thirty-year tenure, the company grew to a team of over 200. He rose to the top of Chicago’s real estate industry with major projects such as the evolution of the West Loop where he was the pivotal driver in transforming an area of meatpackers and food distributors to become one of the hottest, most exciting, sought-after locations for tech companies – big and small; buying up properties and building new offices attracting the likes of Google to locate its campus there, followed by Uber, Twitter, Ideo and a whole host of others.
In 2016, Scott started Farpoint Development, continuing to be a leading force in notable Chicago projects. Scott was selected by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2017 to head the master developer team for the Michael Reese Hospital Redevelopment project – Scott’s vision includes a Life Sciences facility creating a hub to attract companies in this sector; a perfect fit for one of Israel’s most dynamic sectors where companies seeking to market and showcase their innovative products in the U.S. could be part of this hub.
Chicago has a thriving, dynamic ecosystem as an innovation and technology hub and landing place for startups; with 20+ incubators and accelerators; it is fast becoming the new alternative to the east and west coasts for startups to established companies, shedding the “flyover prairie” name. El Al’s nonstop flights to Israel starting in the spring of 2020 will be influential in attracting Israeli innovation companies from tech to life sciences to join this ecosystem.
